Promoting Social and Labour Inclusion in the VII Solidarity Walk of Lima

On 27 October, we held the VII Solidarity Walk in Lima, Peru. An event that brought together 307 participants with the aim of promoting the social and labour inclusion of people with intellectual disabilities. This sports day, held at the Pentagonito in San Borja, was celebrated as part of the National Day of Persons with Disabilities.

An inclusive and supportive event

Under the slogan ‘Reaching the finish line together’, the walk was attended by 97 people with intellectual disabilities and 73 Prosegur volunteers. The speed of the walk was adjusted to ensure that all participants could walk together, underlining the Prosegur Foundation's commitment to accessibility and inclusion.

‘It is inspiring to continue supporting social inclusion. This walk not only allowed us to experience unforgettable moments with people with disabilities, but we also had the opportunity to form friendships with those who crossed the finish line,’ Hair Zapata, a volunteer at the Foundation.

Collaboration with institutions dedicated to Inclusion

This walk was also attended by important institutions such as the Offices for the Protection, Participation and Organisation of Disabled Neighbours (OMAPED) of San Borja and Surco, the Basic Special Education Centres (CEBE) María Auxiliadora and Laura Alva Saldaña, and the Ann Sullivan Centre.

‘We immediately accepted this invitation because we wanted to be part of this strong commitment to promote work with people with disabilities. This type of opportunity is invaluable, as it allows us to experience values that contribute to building a better country’, Margarita Mejía, director of CEBE María Auxiliadora.

A more inclusive future

With this new edition of the walk, we reaffirm our commitment to create inclusive environments where everyone can move forward together in a spirit of solidarity and respect. Inclusion not only transforms lives, but also builds a more just and united society.

Continued commitment to Workplace Inclusion

Since 2007, Prosegur and its Foundation have worked on various initiatives to incorporate professionals with intellectual disabilities into the labour market through the Supported Employment methodology. This plan, which began in Spain, has been extended to six countries, including Peru, where it currently has eight members in different areas. At the Shared Services Centre in Peru, these professionals have digitised more than one million documents in the last five years.

Thanks to all participants and collaborators for making this event a success and for continuing to support the social and labour inclusion of people with intellectual disabilities!
